"Offering" is the 5th record by Bird By Snow (for sale now!). Recorded and performed entirely by Fletcher Tucker (me). Eight completely analog recordings put to tape at various power spots in Big Sur, California – my homeland. This primordial, majestic and wild landscape is the primary inspiration for the album. However, this record does not present a simple, picturesque view of nature. As in the wild itself dark and light appear in equal measure – storms rage and fires destroy; there is erosion, decomposition, disease and predation. The wilds of Big Sur are vast and powerful, fantastically destructive and creative.

Inspiration was also found in human stories and doings. Lyrics center around our tribal past and future, old ritualistic relationships to nature, our potential to be truly at home in the wild, and conversely our will to change it. Indeed as easily as one may visualize a foggy redwood forest as the record plays you may also see and hear tools being sharpened, fires being lit, stone walls being built, and ceremony being held.

"Offering" sets out to reawaken an ancient consciousness, an atavistic awareness present in the land and in ourselves – to give you permission to return to the familiar place, inhabited by our ancestors, where myth and magic are primary natural forces. "SUBTLE BODY" Cassette Tape + Mp3 (Gnome Life Records, Echomancy Tape Series, 2011) This is my 3rd EP, and my 7th release as Bird By Snow (4 LP's & 2 other EP's). "Subtle Body" represents a return to my lo-fi life. Recording at home is as much a process of discoverey as it is a process of creation, and I am happy to return that mysterious unfolding with this EP. The music is informed by my love of California, and more specifically my joyful exploration of Big Sur, in its solid (physical) and subtle (energetic) manifestations. I carried these songs from the psychic hills, and corporeal beaches, back to my home, where I recorded them as best I could. And it is my intention to invoke the light and power of Big Sur with this tape, to disseminate some of that land’s magic into the rest of the world. And, of course, I also wish to honor the land itself.

"COMMON WEALTH" LP+Mp3's (Gnome Life, 2010) This is my 4th long-player, and my first release that I did not record myself at home. It was indeed produced by the magnetic Tim Green (on tape) at Louder Studios in San Francisco. Tim has recorded a few of my favorite records, like "Ancestral Songs" by Daniel Higgs, and "Diadem of 12 Stars" by Wolves in the Throne Room, and he's worked with countless other awesomes... it was a great joy to record with him. Spencer Owen and I took full advantage of the 24-track studio and birthed a wilderness of songs, a new ecosystem of lush arrangements. This album explores moments where friendship, the wild, love, ancient practice, community, and the broader literatures of the present moment make the heat haze of seperation look less convincing. And on an even simpler level, this album is about feeling the good flow.

"AFTER BIRTH " Mp3 EP (Gnome Live Free, 2010) This is a digital EP which I was going to release as a 7" but just decided to start giving away. I like to record multiple versions of songs, it feels more like they have their own lives and energies. These two songs are alternate universe versions of songs from "Songbread/Another Ocean". Recorded on 8-track cassette at home in San Francisco.

"SONGBREAD/ANOTHER OCEAN" LP+CD-R (Gnome Life, 2009) This is my 3rd LP. I recorded it on 8-track cassette at home, for a lo-fi record, it is pretty hi-fi. Most of these songs were two years old before I recorded them, written on tour, and performed many many times. They were like old friends and I knew them very well before I arranged them, they hold no secrets. Amazing percussion arrangements by Spencer Owen here! And my friend Mania Lozinska lends her cello and voice to a few songs, which couldn't please me more. This confusingly titled LP is full of new sounds sparkling in the daylight, alongside new visions... of old ways. Side A speaks of nourishment, side B of expansion, both aspire to arrive at a wakeful, grateful place.

THIS EDITION is limited to 550 copies, on completely clear vinyl. It comes with a CD version of the same music; a deluxe handmade booklet of literature, lyrics, ideas, and points of entry; AND a second semitransparent poster of poetry called "SLOW POEMS" . "SKY" LP+Mp3 (Gnome Life, 1st pressing 2006, 2nd pressing 2008) This is the 2nd pressing of my 2nd record. These are my most dense sound-scapes, a sculptural album that moves in and out of fog and tape hiss. Sometimes tiny and orchestral, sometimes huge and minimalist. Shimmering with strings, and hearty notions. You can hear some attempts to create new genres, like mountain dub and California-soukous. Songs written as poems, in many different places around the world, over a year... and then recorded at home, on tape, all in the order they appear on the LP. The meanings of these songs were a mystery to me, unraveling only as I began to record and perform them. It is a record of slow unveilings.

"INDUSTRIAL COLLAPSE " 7-inch EP(Gnome Life, 2006) This is an EP recorded right before starting work on "Sky". My only 7" to date, the recording and mastering is insanely lo-fi and raw. These songs are golden never-hits to me, some of my favorite songs lyrically that I've ever written, both sort of funny, and weird. Not many left, don't miss your chance to own my strangest release.

"ANTLERS AND THE SUN AND ALL THE THINGS THAT GROW OLD AND PASS AWAY" LP (Gnome Life, 1st pressing 2005, 2nd pressing 2008) This is my 1st record. Recorded on 4-track cassette, these songs were made with great fluidity... most of the tunes and words were written, but the accompaniment was improvised as I recorded, one of the songs (lyrics and all) was completely improvised. I play a lot of folky instruments, the songs and sounds are simple, my approach is naked and plain. Bird By Snow was born here, and you can hear that I'm still squirming and blinking, but you can tell by the look in my eye that it's me... a number of friends joined me on this one, companions of the Santa-Cruz-house-shows-days, here's a list: Spencer Owen, Kelsey Barrett of Effi Briest, John Garmon of Whysp, Spencer Doran of Cloaks, Matt Longwell of I Explode You!, & Adam Payne of Residual Echoes .

ALL EDITIONS were severely limited, the 2nd pressing to only 100, on transparent-red vinyl. The covers of the first 75 vinyl LP's sold (of the 1st pressing) featured an Intaglio (copper plate) etching, hand printed by me. This is the only Intaglio record cover in human history (maybe)... but all 75 were sold fast, the remaining copies featured a 2 color silk-screened cover on recycled inside-out records jackets... The 2nd pressing is a 3 color hand-made paradise, also printed by me.
